Al
Ghorfa Magazine
AL GHORFA is a 76-page bi-lingual commercial magazine published by OCCI in six issues a year (once in every two months) including the National Day special issue.
Al Ghorfa was first published in 1978 to coincide with the occasion of Oman's 8th National Day celebrations. Its mission, among other things, is to act as a means to convey information and news about the latest happenings in the world of economy and business and to highlight the fruits of Oman's renaissance, besides being the mouthpiece of the Omani businessmen and industrialists.
During the past years, Al Ghorfa had undergone a host of changes both in editorial content as well as in its presentation, so as to match with the growth and developments
that occurred in the global economic scenario and the world of media and publishing.
Al Ghorfa used to be printed in black and white, but now it is printed in multicolor using the latest in the printing technology. As far as the editorial content is concerned, it has expanded the topics and
issues it used to cover. It didn't restrict its coverage to the activities of the
Chamber and other public and private sector establishments only, but also gave sufficient attention to wider areas of economy and investment.
Initially, the magazine was distributed among its excellent and first grade members only. However, it now reaches larger number of members as more than 10,500 copies are circulated both inside and outside the country.
Apart from business news, Al Ghorfa deals with economic analyses, reports, articles and interviews, in addition to business opportunities and details of exhibitions. Commercial advertisements were introduced at a later stage as a step to make the magazine self-sustaining and also as a boon to the local manufacturers and service providers to promote their products and services at subsidized rates. A local advertising company has been contracted to market advertisement space in the magazine.
Al Ghorfa continues to follow a clear and ambitious approach aimed at improving its performance, both in terms of its appearance and
content, in order to achieve its goals of creating proper economic awareness and promoting the national products and thereby inviting contributions to the national economy's development and projecting the country's economic concepts and visions to the outer world.
A dedicated team of editors, ably assisted by other staff of the
Chamber, bring out each issue of Al Ghorfa in an attractive form, with expert contributions from leading writers and economists from within and outside Oman. The magazine's layout and designs are carried out in-house, by using the latest desktop publishing software.
