Defence
and Security
His Majesty the Sultan is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, which consist of Army, Navy and Air Force units distributed throughout the Sultanate. In 1975 rebel resistance in the Dhofar was crushed and the Royal Army, Air Force and Navy of Oman are now playing a significant part in the development of the Southern province.
The Royal Oman Police force commanded by the Inspector General of Police and Customs, who reports directly to His Majesty the Sultan, has its headquarters at
Qurum. Before 1970, a police force outside the capital did not exist but now there are divisional headquarters and police stations covering the entire country.
