One can enjoy recreational activities mainly implies "wadi" trips and camping. Most hotels have bars with live music and swimming pools, and can organise "dhow" trips or similar events.

In Muscat, there are many sports activities run by the hotels, clubs and other organisations. These include bowling, chess, cricket, diving, darts, fishing, golf, karate, ice skating, motor sports, rafting, rugby, running, sailing & motor boating, softball, squash and tennis.

Good guides to sports, shopping, eating out, and other interesting things to do, such as camel and horse racing, bull fighting (in which the animals receive at most scratches) and fort and souq visits are contained in 'An Introductory Guide to life in the Sultanate of Oman', produced by The American Women's Group, and 'Oman Today' a monthly magazine published by Apex Publishing - although this publication's restaurant and similar listings are limited to the Capital Area.
 

Eating Out

Restaurants There is a wide variety of restaurants in the Capital Area serving all tastes - including Indian, Chinese, Arabic, Lebanese, Thai and European. There are fast food outlets such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, MacDonalds and Burger King. There are a number of four and five star hotels which have a variety of restaurants, such as French and Italian. However, these can be expensive, particularly alcoholic drinks. The magazine Oman Today has an excellent list of all the majority of the restaurants in the Capital Area.
