FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES OF OCCI FOREIGN COMMERCIAL OFFICES
Following the adoption of the feasibility study it had
prepared in coordination with other concerned authorities,
which supported the idea of setting up and operating
foreign trade offices in some developed countries having
special economic relation with the Sultanate while giving
priority to countries where there are no diplomatic
representation for Oman.
The decision to open these offices was taken based on the desire to
realise a major objective of developing trade and economic relations between Taiwan.
General Functions of the Foreign Commercial Offices OCCI Foreign Offices in Taipei are assigned with a number of functions which include:
- To enhance existing cooperation and friendship between Oman and their host countries, in various fields and at different levels.
- To cement economic ties between Oman and their host countries by way of promoting establishment of business contacts and joint venture projects.
- To focus on probing all possible ways to serve the economic and commercial establishments and corporations and the Omani businessmen and industrialists.
- To facilitate contacts between Omani businessmen and industrialists with their counterparts in the host countries.
- To contribute in activating bilateral cooperation channels between Oman and the host countries.
- To benefit from the advanced expertise and experience enjoyed by the economies of the host countries in trade, industry, tourism, mining, agriculture, fishery, management, training and HRD sectors.
SERVICES RENDERDED BY THE
FOREIGN COUNTRIES
The Oman Commercial Offices in Taiwan render a host of services to the Omani businessmen and business houses and their counterparts in the host countries. These
offices provide vital information on various economic sectors both in Oman and the host countries. The services also include:
- Provision of commercial and economic information, statistics, rules and regulations of Oman to the concerned parties and entities in the host countries and vice versa.
- Introduction of business opportunities available in each country and stimulation of bilateral trade.
- Provision of information on places and dates of holding trade and tourism fairs, seminars, conferences and facilitating participation in these events.
- Provision of necessary information, facilities and services to the Omani businessmen who visit the host countries. These include reception, hotel booking, arranging meetings and providing them with necessary information and guidance.
- Encouraging business from the host countries to visit Oman and helping them, in coordination with the Chamber, to arrange meetings with Omani officials and business executives.
- Replying to queries from businessmen and industrialists on types and prices of industrial products and their sources, addresses of companies and their market reputation, addresses of manufactures of plant, machinery and raw materials and their technical specifications, tax regimes, import/export terms and conditions, addresses of shipping and customs clearance companies, social environment matters and trade practices.
- Organising trade delegation visits and arranging meetings for the delegates, participating in the activities of the delegations and preparing reports on the outcome of such visits.
- Trying to settle commercial disputes amicably, by ensuring that the commodities match with the agreed specifications and the commitment of both exporter and importer with the clauses of the contract signed between them.
- Conducting research and market trends for Omani products to be manufactured.
Apart from the above, the foreign offices also render services related to Omani economy in general and its relation with Taiwan .
These include:
- Introducing Oman as a modern state that possesses great potentials and excellent features, highlighting its developments through various information media and through attending important economic events and gatherings held in the host countries.
- Promoting investments in Oman's industrial, tourism and other sectors and providing those concerned with all information of investment opportunities and projects, laws and regulations and foreign investment incentives.
- Marketing Omani industrial products by exhibiting their samples at the permanent exhibitions of the foreign offices by participating in trade fairs held in the host countries, providing brochures and catalogues of the products to the concerned authorities.
- Prompting Omani tourism potentials among the public as well as tour operators in the host countries.
- Bonding cooperation between the government and non-government departments and bureaus and foreign economic missions in the host countries.
- Helping to arrange and prepare for official visits by senior Omanis to the host countries and vice versa.
- Following-up striking business deals between Oman and the host countries when asked to do so.
- Legalising and attesting business transaction and invoices exported to Oman from the host countries.
- Facilitating issue of entry visas for the citizens of the host countries to visit Oman for business or
tourism.
